Legal Design
Design legal documents for clarity, understanding and action
Legal documents are often written from the drafter’s perspective rather than the reader’s. The result? Contracts, policies and internal guidance that are difficult to read, understand and use for clients, employees, business users and other readers.
This workshop introduces legal teams to the principles of legal design and shows how legal content can be improved through better structure, plain language, information design and visual design. Best suited for legal teams that want to improve legal communication.
Ideal for legal teams that want to:
- improve the clarity and usability of contracts, policies and other legal content;
- make legal information easier to read, understand and act on;
- reduce friction for business users, employees, clients or other readers;
- explore how legal design can support better legal communication and business outcomes, such as fewer questions from business users, better understanding of legal requirements and improved compliance with policies and procedures.
In this workshop, we look at:
- the essentials of legal design;
- how to organise and redesign legal content so it is easier to read, use and act on;
- how plain language, structure and visual hierarchy improve legal communication;
- how to use visual elements meaningfully to communicate more effectively and enhance the overall user experience;
- how to turn dense, text-heavy documents into visually appealing, easy-to-read materials using Word or PowerPoint.
Participants leave with:
- a practical introduction to legal design;
- concrete techniques to improve the clarity and usability of legal documents;
- examples of how legal content can be restructured and rewritten for better communication;
- a better understanding of how document design influences comprehension, behaviour and business outcomes.
